Well, today I was drivin along, bumpin away about to head to work. Suddenly my brand new (had it installed for maybe a week) L7 stops responding, and makes and aweful scratching noise. So I take the sub out of the box to discover... . . . . . . The ****ing cone has come completely loose from the spider (I believe the yellow part that connects to the cone is refered to as the "spider"..?) The gain on my zx750.1 was set not even 1/4 of the way up.(barely passed audible level!!) Someone even suggested that I turn it up double of what I had it at. Bass boost was on 12 of 18. I firmly believe that this had to be faulty equipment and not my neglect. If the ebay seller doesnt come through with the warranty it's supposed to have, I'm selling my amp and I'm done with the car audio for now. I'm tired of buying cheap nonsense off ebay that ends up breaking after a couple of days. Which is totaly my fault. I try jumping into the car audio thing without the proper funds to do so, and then end up paying for it in the end. This is the second sub I've been through in the past 3-4 weeks. Although the other one was used and ABUSED so I didnt take that one so bad.. I thought I was going the right direction with the L7, but it proved me wrong. Now I'm kicking myself in the *** for not just waiting for Soundsplinter to have more Rl-p 12" d4's in..(they were out the day I was goin to purchase one.) Well, we'll see how it goes when I get a response from the seller. D A M N THE LUCK!

x2.

12db+ is extremely high I never use bass boost and if I do I only use 1-2 but thats very rare. Did you have the bass boost on the head unit set that high as well? you were sending a clipped signal to the sub.

I guess the general concensous agrees...Bass boost = DEATH to L7. But I never knew bass boost could be that brutal. I was actually told that it could be all the way up, but I turned it down just to be sure. The bass boost was turned that high because it got the sub to listenable levels. I have no idea how the L7 got so much hype if everyone is running it with no bass boost... it just seemed to me I HAD to have the bass boost to even get it goin. . .?! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Ahh well, you live and you learn. . .

05 or 06 L7? what kinda box? what car? and if the gain was at 1/4 then turn it up to where its suppsoed to be and leave the bass boost alone. but clipping only leads to voice coil death. over excursion is what this sounds liek to me.

[quote name= sell me your amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif[/quote]

That may be arranged if I'm out the $200 I payed for the sub... Either I sell the amp, or hit the pawnshop up for a couple of oldschool subs. . .Decisions decisions

I'll keep you informed if I decide to sell

See, I was under the impression that the gain knob was the bad one, not the bass boost //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif It's an 06 model in a 2.15 tuned to 32hz in a 94 camry. I planned to upgrade the box soon..but looks like that's changed a bit. I've seen the L7 in vids get ALOT more excursion than I was getting.

Wow @ all the responses I get for my horror story. Where are you guys when I'm in need of help?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Actually Ebay is a good place to get audio if you look in the right places and not just jump on the first offer you see. I've bought subs and an amp off ebay a few years ago with no warranty and they're still working like new. You just have to use your head with the settings and take care of everything. I'm still a newbie when it comes to setting gains and I never use a DMM (don't even know where to get one) and everything is still going smoothly so I guess I'm doing something right.

And not to be an as$hole or anything, but blowing your subs/amps/whatever and then blaming the place you bought it from is ignorant. It's not Ebay's (or whoever you bought it from) fault that you had your settings too high and caused it to blow. I just hate when people accuse other people/places that they're the reason the stuff messed up.

I'll never touch the bass boost knob agian. (that is, after I turn it OFF) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Now I feel like a total *** because I thought I was doing everything right.

I guess their is one good thing about being an idiot. You always have room for improvement //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I wouldnt go all out on a sub for over a minute after been still somewhat new. When i had my 15'' L7 hooked up to my brothers RF bd1500 we had the gain set low and no bass boost then i turned up the bass boost and turned it right back down in a hurry. Or else something would have came unattached

If your looking at selling your amp let me know //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Should of bought a sub that could take outragous amounts of clipped signal, like a DMX, Mojo, Solo X...something that could take some abuse.

im convinced amplifier companies put a bass boost on amps just to make more money on selling people new shit who's blown their subs.
