I have a 12v battery but my amp needs 14.4v!!

you alternator puts out around 13.8-14.4 volts when the car is on. If you want to keep the car off, just get a 14.4 volt power source that converts AC to DC

You don't.

The amp will run off 12V (actually, most 12VDC electronics will tolerate voltages down to about 10V or so) but at a reduced power level.

Hrm? Methinks you're getting this confused with a AC-DC power inverter, which is something entirely different...

The whitepaper / specsheet on your amplifier probably shows performance results based on a 14.4 volt powersource - this isn't uncommon.

If you take a look at your "Battery Meter" on your car's dash, you'll notice it's probably up around 14 / 15 when the car is running.

No worries, you don't have an 'incompatible' amp or anything.
