i got the RSD's running active!!

So the speaker outputs are crossed over the same as the settings on the HU? Did you double check this? I don't think they are .....
yes they def are. my tweeters are only playing highs. they are crossed at 3.15k. i think i would have noticed right away if they were getting full range.

it was suggested by a few people over on DIYMA.com to try it. it sounds really good and the tweets get pretty **** loud just off of the 22 watts the head unit can make. i still plan to put a small amp on them but for now it's working great.

Do one thing for me, turn the hpf as far high up as u can on the tweet, and tell me what you notice if anything...

Thanks.

does it help that i toggled through the different settings and noticed the tweeter playing less and less as i moved the crossover higher and higher? i heard a big difference when i toggled between 3.15k and 4 k. does that answer your question?

EDIT: i just went out and started my car up so it can warm up a bit b4 i leave for work. i quickly moved the hpf higher and higher and yes it is def putting out just high frequencies to the tweeter. it's def crossing it's internal amp. you could run your whole front stage active right from the HU's internal amp. i don't think it would give you very much mid-bass with such little power but it'll do it.

I know my 9835 speaker outputs crossover the same as the RCA outputs. I dont have anything but my deck in my s10 and I am thinking of trying running my stock speakers active, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif.. Using the the stock dash speakers for the highs and the door speakers for the mids. Should be funny.

I just switched to an active stock speaker setup. It sounds better because now the I can do t/c and raise the stage and move it around. Also those crap stock speakers dont have to work as much. I will be changing the speakers soon.

i do still plan to get a small 2 channel amp for them, but for now it's great. they get pretty **** loud off of the head unit.

oh, and 3.15k at 24 db is still workin fine for the tweeter. i haven't really messed with the crossover points and slopes much yet.

i keep hearing a few people sayin 2.5k is a bit high for the mid. why is that? i'm guessing with the passive the crossover was around 3.5-4k. it sounds soooo much better at the points i have them.

ok so i've had this setup like this for about 5 days now. everything is still holding up fine with the power and crossover points i'm using.

the difference on this set between passive and active is a pretty good difference. the whole set just sounds so much more clean and detailed. there is a huuuuge difference in how the mids sound. they sound much more punchy down low and a lot clearer up top. there no more harshness in the upper end of the mid.

i do still plan to put more power to the tweeters. mainly so i don't have to crank the volume knob so high. if i wanted to play an older, really quiet recording i don't think i could get much volume or dynamics out of it.

but all in all it's still holding up and sounding great. i just wish it was warmer so i could get some real nice long listening time w/o freezing my but off.
