I loved that and MY DP15...both bought from Scottie...that thing was SOOO loud in his Cavalier off of a 1501d...

Also the coils read 1.2 and 2.2 IIRC. So it will need a recone soon anyways.
I don't believe I've ever heard of a speaker's coil changing its impedance before it blows. Frankly, I don't see how its possible. Either the circuit will be connected (no short) and the full length of the coil will be used, guarantee'ing a certain impedance (based on wire diameter and length within the coil), or there will be a short in the coil, the circuit will be broken, and the coil will read 0 ohms.

My Kappa Perfects read a different Ohm load and sounded like shit... so I plugged them into a wall socket...

Maybe it's an Ohio thing...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Wow, really?!

I heard of it tons of times...

The reason it happens is because the coil in that DP is a dual .7 and that coil is really a Quad 1.4 in parallel, we just offset the other two coils from 90 degrees to 180 degrees and the two coils on each side lay on top of each other. Then when you build the sub you grab both leads together and build it and by doing so you parallel it. So basically when you lose one coil on one side the impedance doubles because the break in the circuit stops the coil from being in parallel. We do this because we need the winding height to be 1.6 inches and the OD to be 3.018 inches, a straight dual .7 isn’t possible. So one coil is at .7 and the other is at 1.4. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ummm...I can't believe Nick didn't chime in on this, but that motor is not a TC product in any way, shape, or form. Looks can be deceiving people. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Nice sub BTW. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm saying one coil is perfect (2 coils on one side parallel), other coil is broke (1 coil good and one bad) so only 1/2 of the coil reads. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Correct, nothing to do with TC at all. Sorry guys getting ready for CES, I just ran through this post quickly and didn't catch it all.
