I got robbed by the Tow yard..... What to do?

Okay my car got towed and took for 30 days by the police department. the lien sale date was 11\17 i got the release from the police department and went to the tow yard on 11\18. At first they told me that it past lien so the car is theirs now and that i could buy it from them but it going to be sold as is. The situation is the car has $1700 rims and tires and a $2000 stereo system. So they said i can have it but without the system just the rims. I got mad and tried dispute the fact and and they told me to F#%^ off that the car is theirs. i tried to reason with them and tell them to keep the beat and just give me my car back. and they made few calls. The manager and a few employees made enough comment to make me believe that they already made there claims on my system. The bill to date was $1590 and i had cash in hand. Then the manager came back into sight and told me that the owner of the tow company said that they'd rather keep the car and if i want to bid on it i can come back on one of their auction days.

My beliefs are they already took my system already due to the fact that when i got there they was cool until they found out which car i was there to pick up. then they started acting different, like they was hiding something. Now I'm SOL of my car system and rims.

So if theres any thing i can do to remedy the situation and get my car back?

Another thing is about a few hours later my mom seen the car driving and clearly ID'd the license plate to my car. She couldn't see the driver due to the tinted windows.

Plus this tow yard is known to be shady. So any and all information would be appreciated thanks.

I called them when the car first got took the said that i don't get paid till the 17th and ill be there. they said the car will be there that it takes them a couple of weeks to prep it for auction. I thought everything was good but it wasnt

Check with the police department and see if they own the vehicle and personal property in the vehicle, or just the vehicle itself. Depending on the situation, they may be required to return atleast the personal property left in the car to you (which IMO would include any stereo equipment not installed in OEM locations).

But if you didn't pay until after the required date....you're definitely SOL on the car and rims.

well... who's name is the car registered in? or, is that not how it works in America? can they transfer the cars rego without your permission?

Another thing is the Tow company is co owners with the police department. And for those of you who live in San Jose know what Tow yard Im talking about.

i should be correct in saying that if you didn't pay them by the 17th, it would be they're car, and they can do what every they want with it. the title and all is in the tow companys name. hate to tell you this, i don't think there is anything you can do short of doing something illegal. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Without your permission...no. Not just anybody can take your car and transfer title into their name.

But if the vehicle is repossessed or legally taken for other reasons (DUI, etc) then you only have a certain amount of time to redeem the vehicle until the tow company/lienholder becomes the legal owner and can transfer title into their name.

I guess that means i can get my amps and box. Which are already gone.

One of my buddy's has a tow business, any car not picked up and paid for within 30 days becomes theirs.
