I got denied unemployment - why?

So today i got a letter from the NCESC saying im basically not eligible for unemployment. Says my wages were insufficient in my base period to recieve benefits. Ive been working consistently for almost 2 years now and my last year or so has been part time. The letter says in my "base period" i made right under 5 grand in the last 3 quarters, and lists the first quarter for 2009 but doesnt show any wages earned in that period and i know **** well i made money then as i was almost full time during that period. So i wanna know why im not elegible for unemployment? Im calling the office now to see what they have to say about it. But im sure some of you guys have gone through this too so maybe you can help me out more than the fat *** secretary im gonna have to speak with.

I just got a letter back from the states surveying department saying that the job was offered to someone else. I was fvckin pissed. The guy interviewing me said that he would hire me right now if he could, and that I was his favorite. All my schooling, and classifications and how the hell do I not meet the qualification. The interview went for 1 1/2 hours, and I drove 250 mile round trip for it:furious://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

if i'm reading that correctly, then you made 5k over the last 3 quarters? or you made 5k each of the last 3 quarters?

if it's the first, you didn't make enough to even get benifits(according to MI unemployment), and if it's the second, you would barely even be getting a check anyway.

on MIU, if you gross 15.xK in your last active quarter, then you've reached the cap for unemployment, which is 785 every other week before taxes, figure 5k in one quarter, you'd be making about 255 every other week. that's a lot of hassle just for 127.50 a week BEFORE taxes.

but since i'm reading your OP as you only made 5k over the last 3 quarters, you didn't gross enough to be eligible for UE, this is all based on my knowledge of MIU though

It is on you to prove you made over 5k in the base period. So start compiling all those stubs that I know you saved. If you didn't save them, then you will have to seeif the employer will provide copies of them, but I wouldn't expect them to jump. Otherwise kiss the bennies good bye.

in most cases the most recent quarter you worked does not get calculated. its 1 year form the previous quarter. so in your situation it would of been from january 08 to december 31st 08. you should of recieved a booklet explaining the rules and requirements from them. if not then it should be available online. you also have the right to appeal which i would do but read up first and make sure your not wasting your time.

they probably thought you were over qualified....sometimes companies won't hire soneone over quaslified because they feel that their pay is not what your worth and that you might leave them...so they decide not to waste their time or yours....
