i found something very amazing

you can burn 800mb to a 700mb disc by writing in mode2!
you can burn 1 gig to a 700mb disc by using an oldschool plextor 52x premium!!

and even $90 decks from best buy can mostly play mp3's, and even my ex-roomate's 1999 kenwood excellon!!

if you rip cd's yourself and use decent software you can also compress down to 128 kbps and get even more on a disc. i don't personally go below 192, but it can be done.
