Gimmie Some Sugar Baby!!!
So yesterday I decided I was going to buy a second PDX1.1000 so I could run one amp to each of my Type X's. I had issues with the first one when I got it about the input gain selector switch not being set properly, so this time I called Alpine tech support and asked where I should be setting these switches on the amps now that I have two. The guy I talked to said since my HU has 4v pre-outs that both amps should be set to the hi volt setting. Well long story short after everything was installed I tuned the amps and after half of ONE song I smell burnt subwoofer. Of course when that happened I called Alpine once again but conveniently by this time no one was able to help me. Can anyone shed some light on why this might be happening? Or has anyone ever run two PDX1.1000's and maybe had the same problem?

69 views of this thread and not even one suggestion? What the hell guys!?!?!?!?!?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif I talked to the guys at Alpine again and all they had to say was that everything is hooked up properly and I might just need to turn the gain down.

did u set the gain correctly?
Yes I set the gains correctly. Accually I didn't even really have to set them high at all, just a little under half.

Same box you've always used with those subs?
Yes, same box I've always used.

But let me know what you think of this. After I talked to Alpine about the gain settings I went back to the trunk and looked over in the daylight what I did last night in the dark. I noticed the only thing that was out of whack was that the ground wire connected to the second amp had come a little loose. It was still in there but it was loose enough that I could pull it out with my fingers. I also found out that only one of the subs had blown and it was the one that was hooked up the first amp, not the one with loose ground.

Can anyone make sense out of that?

How do you set your gains? I had the same amp and my gain was set at about the 10' o clock position. I set it with an oscilloscope and it was producing full power at that point. A hair higher and it would clip.

not that this matters or anything but i would like to point out that if the OP had each sub wired at 2 ohms and then paralleled them together for a one ohm load, then hooked them up to a PAIR of STRAPPED amps it would be at .5 ohms to ea. amp

so there, its possible //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

I'm pretty sure he said he wired each one to two ohms then connected one to a respectve amp. Correct me if i'm wrong
