I don't understand whats so wrong with dogs and cats being used for their meat.

I went to Thiland some years ago and they hang dogs up by a rope and beat them with a stick to tenderize them. Yes they were still alive.

I guess, if I was starving I could eat a dog, but to torture them like that was pretty sad.
