I have tried wires straight to the battery (power, acc and ground), I grounded the RCA's, tried a seperate set of rca's that went above the carpet to the amp (its a single cab truck amp under the seat) re routed the remote wire, changed the amp ground to a different place, I tried unplugging the antenna from the headunit. It still pops when turning on/off and whines like crazy, if I unplug the RCA's from the headunit it goes away... I ran our of ideas... The power/ground wires are 4 gauge for a 240 watt power acoustik amp. I even changed the headunit, still the same. I am stumped.

well i think you already answered you problem if it goes away when you unplug the RCA's from the head unit your culprit might be the head unit Is it a pioneer. try hooking up another head unit maybe running your Rcas from a Buddies car to you amp and see if the Whine is still there if not its your head unit if it is still there then is your RCA's or amp

Thanks for the replies, I think I said that I already switched head units, I went from an old school audiovox to a newer pioneer, same thing, tried grounding the rca's on both. where can you get an isolator? would radioshack carry them?

as for the alternator... definately oem. its relatively new... it stopped working after I did this:

Did you try grounding the RCAs like this?
