ok um question. It has four ports and a WAN port. I am not using the WAN port because a friend(parents run own internets called GETNET) said not to use that. So I have from the dsl modem into slot 1, my comp clot 2, and fiancee comp slot 3 the others are wireless. When I pull up the network I dont see the router this way. I have before. could this be the problem also?

Hook it back up the way you had it when you could "see" the router.

ok, I will do that. he kept saying that was going to generate more than one ip adress and I dunno what he thinking bacuse I have know lots of friend that have routers and servers and dont have to pay for multiple ip addresses. Wierdz hope you follow what I mean.

I'm not sure what he is referring to actually. Your router translates all communication through one IP Address it requests from the ISP via your cable modem. Its called Network Address Translation or NAT for short.
