I built a box, but no bass Professional help please

Ok guys I went ahead with a friend of mine and made a box for my 8'' assassin sub.The box is 16.5 inches long, 11.5 inches wide and about 11 inches in height or so. my problem is that I put the port hole in front of where the subs face is facing..not in the back where I thought it should have went. the hole is only maybe about 5 inches or something not exactly the biggest hole, but virtually no bass is coming out. I can see the sub moving and hear it when i put my ear to the porthole, but its really low and I have all the electrical connections connected right. Right now my camera doesnt have batteries but i will get pics up asap as soon as I get a battery. What can you guys give me with this little drawing that i made up on how it looks....

just a hole right now, its really not that big though. i just sawed the hole....

I mounted the sub on plywood and the box is made of i forgot what the wood was called but it was really strong wood

Theres more to a ported box than putting a hole in a sealed box. Pics of this box, so we can see what youre talking about?

that hole is a high tuned port. sounds to like you basically have a sealed box with a hole in it.

A lot of manufacturers will give you the specs for the port. Look for there site, read and go buy some pvc.

Uhm....if you don't understand what I wrote, go get some prof help.
