Hyundai tiburon 300hp??

I am considering buying a 1997 hyundai tibron (2.7L v-6), and completly tricking it out inside and out. I am talking custom paint job, body kit, gutting interior. The car stock from what I have herd has about 150 hp. My goal is to crank the hp up to 300 without using nitrous oxide. Secondly, Getting it to 300hp, I would like to keep the budget below $5000.00. With that said, I am not sure if it would be best to stick with the stock engine and upgrade the hell out of it, or just throw a hole new engine in. Here is a list of things I plan to put into the car:

If you have not noticed yet, I have not listed any sort of turbo or super charger. So if any one knows were to get a good one that fits a 2.7L v-6, that would be great. Even though I have posted the 150 shot of nitorus, I still want to reach 300hp without it. Now adays this should not be to hard considering turbos and superchargers. I figure with the stuff listed, I will get around 200hp, add a charger of some sort and yazzii I should have atleast 300hp, tell me what ya think, suggestions would be great. Also, with the added stress of more hp, I assume I will be needing to piston heads, rods, etc.

correction, the 1997 base comes with a 1.8L Inline 4, and the fx comes with the 2.7 inline4

why would you want to buy a hyundai. In my opinion the only thing four bangers (or compacts for that matter) are good for is economy.

Its a cheap car that can look cool. You watch in 3 years, it will be in the place of the wrx and evo. also, I found this trubo on ebay, whats do you guys think of it

My dads got a 200 dodge viper, I have noticed upgrades are very expensive, so I want a car I can get cheap and slap upgrades on which are also very inexpensive. I would like to make a fast 4 banger, and also learn alot about cars in the proccess.

dude, mustang GT's come stock with with 300hp in 2005, save your money, i promise you that a brand new mustang with the brand new body still will attract alot more positive attention to your car. and a 300hp tiburon isnt going to be very reliable. and i doubt you could handle it.

btw you said you were gonna trick out your interior...then you said you were gonna gut it...wtf.

Why do people do the things they do...

Owning a Tiburon and having owned a high HP FWD car, I do not see why you would want to do this. For one the engine isn't designed for what you want. Two the Tiburon and that early of a model is a relatively new car, meaning less parts and more expensive. Three with that much power I doubt you will be able to hold the wheel strait when taking off.

Go buy an AWD Turbo charged Eclipse, Talon or something, you will have much more from the start and probably around the same price if you really want to do what you are talking about.

why not a early model 240sx... drop a red top in it, 200hp, then do a couple upgrades to the intake and exhaust and u should be right at ur 300hp mark. plus RWD owns

IMO Mustangs are a dime a dozen and for daddy’s little rich boy or the guy who needs to make up for something else (exceptions to the rule). It is a nice feeling to take a 4 banger and waste a Stang or whatever else.
To me the mustang is almost too easy to upgrade, been around so many years, so many parts, etc.

I like variety and Mustangs whether riced, muscle, or any other car I can appreciate for the +'s and design. NO, it won't... It will never look cool, and it will certainly never take the place of a WRX or an EVO, EVER! And if it hasn't surpassed them now, what makes you think it will in 3 years? Dumbass, I'd rather drive a honda than a ****in tiburon. ****, my 89 lincoln towncar will hand a tiburon it's ass, and it's at least 4600lbs.

ha, a 150 shot would melt his rings, and probably crack pistons like there is no tomarrow. he will be lucky if it doesnt completely blow a hole in the top of the pistons. if that happens, start looking for a good motor guy and some new heads.

you people are ignarant, ass far as the enigne handeling it, I asked what else I would need like pistons and such, telling me I need new ones does not help, telling me what kind of pistons and were to get them helps. There are way to many mustangs out there. THere all the same, some kid in there late teens thinking there the shi*. Oh ya, before you say somthing stupid as hell again like being able to control 300hp thionk again. I race cars in michigan at a track by the name of water ford hills. you can go to waterfordhills.com to check out the site. My dads car has 464hp, I can handle that and have had it on the track, so shut ure mouth. I am not asking wether you people like the idea of a fast tiburon, I am asking what parts do you know of to make it better.

i really dont like the idea. you will probably need to rebuild the whole engine to even handle 300hp plus a $5000 budget i dont think it is going to happen buddy

you want to talk about controlling something. try driving a 250 shifter kart or even a 125. good luck guy, every heard of oversteer. i have raced a lot of things before. dont get so high up on your horse shumacher. if your not happy with the input you are getting, leave.

you have to factor in all of the custom labor that will be needed for a project like this...a high powered inline 4 that has NA roots demands a lot of money period. Huyndai aren't know for reliability either especialy early models. but if you really plan to to take on this task then this is what you will need amont with other things.

1. sleeving of cylinders

2. forged pistons

3. high flow injectors

4. builty bottom end and built top end

5. headers, intake, and exhaust.

these are just some of the few things u will need, and will put you way over ur 5000 limit.

take the advice of others unless u have an unlimited supply of money or sponsors.

some good suggestions were made in earlier post...take a look at 240sx or a rx-7 turboII

the engine that comes with the 240sx is out of a truck line from nissan...there is a bolt on turbo for it that will put it to 200hp i think but don't quote me on that...

aniways whatever suggestions you make, do a lot of research

Wow at first I thought you were talking about a new V6 model tiburon. But now I looked up the '97. It comes with the 1.8 liter 130 hp or optional 2.0 140hp. You want to hit 300 hp??? You might as well buy a new motor buddy, those upgrades you mentioned probably wont even get you over 200hp. If I were you I would atleast get the new model tiburon cause the old ones are ugly. Or like said above, there are many other rice cars to chose from above.
