Hypersonic Sound

great now we know we will be brain washed and sublimitally advertised too:rolleyes: //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/sick.gif.b1847c8dabbfeeddbcf1a78052249e10.gif

You could make a person hear sounds, control their behavior in a way, in fact in the extreme, used as a mind control device.
this would be awesome if I could get ahold of it!..

Hello Catherine Zeta Jones...you are going to marry me now!..and do everything I say //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I find this concept VERY interesting. I'm currently majoring in acoustic engineering at Ohio University, and I've done several papers on the use of hypersonic soundwaves as both a means of advertising and as a non-lethal restraint. What's not mentioned in that snippet is that similar technology is already at work in your own town. Stores like Wal-Mart, Target and many others use non-audible subliminal messages to control shoplifting and to promote impulse buying. Have you ever walked into a store and suddenly had an urge to buy something you'd never think of buying? Chances are, you've been influienced by this technology. It's not exactly an ethical way of conducting business in my opinion, but if it works, it works.

I actually have heard about this before in an article in Newsweek(I think) a few months ago. The main strengths are that the signal can be directed toward one single point without interferring with everything around it i.e. in a crowd of people, one person could be isolated to hear the sound while everyone else is ignorant to it. This has brought up questions by military/law enforcement as it could, in theory, be use as a "non-lethal" way to subdue subjects at a distance. Advertisers love it because the range on these things go out a ways. Correct me if I am wrong but it's over 100 feet from what I understand.

Pretty interesting stuff but it's still under development for at least a few more years. When it does become available and cheap, watch out; the uses for this technology are pretty broad and people will use it in ways the designers never intended. I can just see the day when instead of pissing off all your neighbors with your music, you can purposely harass the one 3 houses down instead.:p Oh well, we'll have to all see when it does some around.

For some reason I am invisioning this never making it into production in the car audio world. Think about it, how ****ing had would tuning and making the sound come precisly to one point? Now instead of being 99% on u'd need to be 100% on or nothing.

It's not as hard or complicated as you'd think. Basically, the idea behind this technology is to compress the soundwave into a beam similar to a laser. Think about it: If we can compress light (which is made up of waves just like sound) into a beam that is easy to control and extremely focused, why couldn't alter the process so that sound could be controlled in a similar fashion?

think about it!

light travels in waves the same as sound and you can concentrate a light at a very very fine point (ie: a laser beam) i wonder if light and sound is the same thing?? like if you slowed light waves down enough could you hear them?? or if you sped sound waves up enough could you see them?? meh i think i'm going crazy

Yea this could kill the whole "passing by boom-box on wheels" stereotype, but how do u concentrate it into ur cabin only?? This sounds complicated so should make for some good reading tomorrow nyte.

i just thought it was interesting i didn't say it had anything to do with car audio lol it'd be cool to have like 3d sound though like it sounded like it was coming from everydirection at once
