Huge dropoff from 42-50hz

I was messing around with a couple of boxes and was using a test cd and both boxes (sealed .65 TC sounds OEM the other bandpass with Ed 10) had a huge drop-off right after 42-43 hz and up and crossover was off etc. is this mainly due to box size or in car acoustics? Should I try a box that is considerably smaller for the sealed box?

i wouldn't go considerably smaller. 4th order bandpass?

It is 4th order rear .75 front .65 tuned to 50 hz. It goes very very deep but has a very steep dropoff around 38-40. I did have it tuned to 64 hz but that was to high and peaky but the bass betweem 25-40 hz was good. I though it was just the bandpass until I tried the sealed OEM and it was not as bad but still had a steep dropoff pretty early.
