HU or amp HPF?

which HPF should I use...the one on the HU or the amp? Reason I ask is because although I have them both set the same 50hz...when I turn off the hpf on the hu it sounds as if there is more bass. thanks for any help!

i might out it up a little higher depening on speakers

I have mine set at 100hz

most Mids/comps are not made to play low hz for a long period of time

I like the bass that's produced...would it be ok to run just the amp hpf? I don't have a sub, so that extra bass is nice. But I don't want to potentially damage them, so is it safe to do it that way? BTW, I've got the 720prs

most people just run the HPF on the HU cuz it gives you more flexibility to change it on the go.

but your 50Hz HPF seems a bit low, what kind of components do you have?

I have 5900IB and I use amps hpf, because it gives more deeper sound.

If I use HUs hpf it makes the sound dull, lifeless and too tight. For my experience the HUs filter freq is the -3dB point not the actual cutoff frequency where the filtering starts.

As for the "too low" frequency, 50Hz is not too low. 50Hz is usually the lowest recommended frequency depending what se of comps one has and how big is the speaker. AFAIK, suggested cutoff frequencies 6.5" are 50Hz-80Hz, 5.25" 60H-100Hz, 4" 80Hz-120Hz. The sound what you want is dependant on your listening habits.

Subs are supposed to produce the lowest bass notes usually below 50Hz. Subbass frequencies are from 20Hz~60Hz, above that the frequencies are bass 60Hz~300Hz and so on.

if I'm reading right, those are the Hz that I can set the HPF...and the 3 different Oct. coincides with the loudness setting?

Octave:

In music, an octave (sometimes abbreviated 8ve or P8) is the interval between one musical pitch and another with half or double its frequency.

0/-6/-12dB/oct is the slope for the hpf how steeply it will cut frequencies below selected Hz.

For instance, if your set the hpf to 50Hz with -6dB/oct slope the next frequency what is cutted by full 6dB is 25Hz, at least in theory. Between the frequncies 25-50 it's gradually decelerated but not the full 6dB. Same goes for the -12dB. If you set to 0 it means same as "OFF". AFAIK.
