HU or Amp Active Filters

My 9887 & 450/4 both have active x/over filters. Any advantages too using one over the other?

Also, my Boston Pro's have the tweet mounted like a coaxial too the mid. Would separate T/A for the mids & highs even be beneficial?

As far as the X-over, I use both. I set the amp for more of a fail safe. The headunit is what I use to fine tune. Easier to get to and adjust. This way if one of them fail, you have a back up.

are you serious?

Use the HU settings of the 9887 and call it a day.
Appreciate the reply, but is there a reason you suggest the HU filters? The reason I ask is because I would need to run another set of RCA's to do so.

9887's filters are implemented in the digital domain.

Not really.

the digital of the alpine is already running through the processing. Using it will not add any more noise. The amps analog processing adds noise and has the ability to be bypassed. This is a MINIMAL amount of nose and likely wont be noticed. In the end it isnt a huge deal. i personally would use the head unit but it sounds like you are more trying to justify NOT using it, and if running an rca is that big of a deal to you then using filters in the amp will work.

You're right. I just don't want to put in the time & money (as minimal as it may be) for zero or no improvement.

If you know exactly how you want to set your filters so as to set and forget them, using the amp's will work fine. But if you want to play with the adjustments to find the best settings, the h/u's filters will make that much easier since you can adjust them from the listening position.
