hu now powering, what could it be?

Got a 01 Jetta and Pioneer Premier 860, and the smart guy before me had his hu hooked up straight to the wires, w/o any harness, so I had to do the same thing (since there was nothing to hook the harness up to). Connected all the wires, but for some reason, the hu just sits there doing nothing, as though the power wire isn't connected. Double checked this, checked as much of the wiring as I could through the dash, can't find anything wrong, I'm so lost as to what's wrong, what could it POSSIBLEY be??

If its the wiring, I'm probably gonna have to get it checked out. If its the hu, anyone got any suggestions on how to try and fix it?? Any common problems the pioneer's have that I should double check?

Ground, power, illumination, and ignition wires are all connected, but NO speaker wires or rca's to amps, but that shouldn't make a diff, cuz the **** thing doesn't even turn on, which means something is wrong w/ the power i'm assuming.

Anyway, are you 100% sure that HU is in working condition? Have you tried hooking it up directly to battery? And have you checked the fuse in the back of the HU?

na, like hook up the power from the hu straight to the battery? Should i ground it when i do this, I don't wanna risk messing anything up.

i have no fuses in the back of the hu (pioneer premier 860) that i can see. Any other fuses in the car I should check out?
