HU into 06 Ram

What do I need to install a HU into my 06 Ram QC. It has the basic system. A dude at Best Buy said I needed a 50 dollar wiring harness. WTF? He said the door chimes and crap run thru the radio. What do I really need?

So you have to have it? I may just get a eq with high level input and uses the stock radio.
