HU advice w/o amp, but w/ sub ctrl...

Hi,

I need a HU for my 260E mbz. I have full-range F/R L/R + 1 sub driven by 3 amps. I need advice for a HU that has

1. 3 pre-amp out or 2 + 1 sub (prefer)

2. sub level control and x-over setting

3. No built-in amp required (prefer so HU lasts longer).

Why would a deck without a built in amp last longer than one that has one.??

I never heard of a HU lasting longer without and internal amp. Rockford does make hu's at a reasonable price without a IA.

Hi All,

Thanks for the responses. Please keep them coming. HU with internal Amps do not last as long as ones that are not powered. I have a Soundstream TC-308 and it still works great. Powered HUs heat up due to the amp and is considered broken if the amp within it dies in addition of course to other internal components... just my 2 cents....

I'm actually steering to the Alpine 7995... any thoughts?

But if you dont have any load on the HU from the speaker outputs no current is going to be flowing to make the HU heat up.

More heat yes, a significant amount or life shortening amount of heat. Not really..
