HS Baseball Phenom leaves after Sophomore year... Thoughts

Hitting 502 foot hr with pitches right down the middle with an aluminum bat just proves you are strong. When he gets to the league it will be interesting to see how good he actually is. I doubt he is anything more than average.
You have to be wayyyy more than strong to hit a 502ft HR regardless of the metal bats. Being the best HS baseball prospect in the country as a Sophomore in HS means you are way more than average.

i was never a fan of the whole leaving HS early to join pro athletics; or even college; because what are you going to do if you get a career ending injury? work at mcdonalds and have every1 say to you; "your that 1 kid that coulda been the next hank aaron right?" seems like to big of a risk; hell i regret not putting more effort into high school; if i did id be in college right now; but i have to work a shit job instead.... school is always a good idea...

Major leagues are different. Wooden bats are heavier and the ball doesn't travel as far off of them. Also, i doubt he can hit major league pitches effectively for homeruns. Highschool players cannot throw a major league style offspeed pitch, at all.

I understand that perfectly, i played a high level of baseball until 2.5 years ago when i had my career ender(Torn rotator cuff... Then Tommy John surgery).

Its just the simple fact of having the bat speed, arm strength, and running speed @ his current age is what makes him so special. He might be another hyped up high schooler who fails or he could be another baseball phenom(like Griffey/Arod) were when they came out of high school.

You should probably just stop now and realize that endofdays is like super amazing at baseball and this kid sucks compared to him.

I think most of these people in here are haters to be honest. The kids got a talent that not many people have. However i do think it would be stupid to skip highschool to go to the majors. I'm currently playin college baseball and trust me the level of play going from highschool to a division 1 college is crazy thats all i gotta say. More power to him if he can make a name for himself in the majors.

word. i'm not really into sports, but even i can recognize the difference between high school, collegiate, and professional levels of sports. right now i assume he's just a cocky freshman thinking he's the shit and is the all star of all the games he plays. but its a completely different game in college, and i assume just as big of a change in the major leagues.

I would quit HS, get drafted, play a couple seasons, and then retire. Heck, the signing bonus is enough so you never have to work another day in your life.

I know I only go to school so that I can become successful/rich. If someone told me I could quit college right now, sign my name, play some sports and get a couple million, I would do it in a heartbeat.

I understand the level of difference between HS, Senior Legion, College, Majors.... I went from being a top HS pitcher in my state to playing college and it was a huge difference. Even a bigger difference was from both of those to playing in the NECBL in the summer.

This kid at his current age is wayy ahead of the curve and it being graded higher than almost any other player in history at his age. I'm not saying he's gonna be a superstar in the MLB, but he has the tools to do so. Whether he keeps up the work ethic and doesn't let everything go to his head is a different story.

Is he not going to Junior College to get his GED? I thought that is what the article said...

So he's not really leaving school, he's just not having to put up with the bullshit of HS.

I played college ball too and it's a huge transition from HS. But there's a huge difference from hr derby and facing professional pitching. Sitting there and hitting lob pitches for homeruns is the equivalent of a 3pt contest in my opinion...it doesn't mean you can compete with players in the NBA.

He can do whatever he pleases. There are many other professions where, if sufficiently talented, you skip school to become more active in it. In sports and entertainment, it is very common, and I don't begrudge him for it. If he'd like, he can get all the education he needs after he fails miserably at baseball.

You people are actually thinking you learn anything useful in HS? High school is there to teach you how to fuck and how to find a social group. I am betting the guy has already had his share of whores and he has an established social group. HS has nothing else to offer.
