I dont know why you would ground your rear battery bank to the chassis either, matter of fact dont do that.

Second that, I'd like to know why as well. Having such a long ground wire isn't that good.

Grounding to the other battery through a piece of wire is going to have much less resistance than through they body of the vehicle to the other battery.

Yes its a long run, but also think of the amount of steel it must also travel through as well. and when you factory in that welded joints.
