how to wire a 3 way switch

i am hooking up a 3 way switch and the connectors on the switch are number 1,2,3 and the wires i have are white, red, and black how do i wire it up

the switch has a off postion whih is in the middle then a spot postiton which is flipped up then a spot and fog postition which is flipped down

might actually be a 4 way switch i am not sure it has 3 settings off,spot, and spot/fog
