Well I was gonna buy a DMM, but I found one in my dad's room just now. Problem is... I have no clue how to use the **** thing!

Heres two pics of it, its like 20 years old but if it works, why not use it?

I've never used one before, so can someone explain to me how I would use it to set my gains?

Yeah man, much easier... But to use that one you would need the positive and negative input cables for it, and it would just be easier to buy a new DMM.

By the way, that is just a multimeter, not a DMM.
my bad. how would I use this multimeter? I do have the input cables by the way, i just disconnected them

so lets say I need a signal strength of 25 volts... Would I switch it to 50 volt AC playing a test tone, and adjust it until it reaches 25 on the black numbers?

You would adjust it until you reached 2.5 on the red numbers.
are you sure? because the dial turns from 10, to 50, to 250.

Then on the face of the MM, there is a range of numbers, going from red 0-10 (for the 10), black 0-25 (for the 25), and black 0-250 (for the 250)

so I would assume if I set it to 50, I would pay attention to the 0-50 range and aim for 25, right?

okay.... so i decided to test a new 9V D battery. I put it on 10V DC, and the dial turns to the black 20 (or red 4)... This doesnt seem right

Try adjusting that dial until you get 9 on the black, it might be a calibration dial.. I dont know man, I dont have much experience with anything other than the digitals.
