How to tell when you are doing damage

To your hearing when you are cranking. Ever since I upped the amp to the CDT's I have it cranked most of the time. Tonight my ear drums are hurting. Maybe I should turn it down or get a reading to see what is safe //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

A doctor will tell you that prolonged exposure to anything above something like 85dB can potentially cause permanent hearing loss. Now, consider this: 85dB isn't really all that loud when talking in comparison to a capable aftermarket mobile audio setup

If your amped CDTs are making your ears hurt after awhile then I'd say that inandofitself should be a good signal that it's TOO FREGGIN' LOUD! lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Flame all ya want, those of you who likely will, but simply having a monster stereo doesn't mean that you have to blare it full tilt all the time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

These guys with systems 10x more than mine.... How the hell do they listen to all that they have? I would think that would be instant damage but I hear them at redlights all the time cranking. You can hardly hear mine cranked on the outside. Maybe a slight rattle of the trunk but that's it.

there have been a few threads on this subject, the way I see it, you know something is going on when you upgrade your subs, amps, etc. and notice a worthy difference of volume level only to find a month or so later you become adjusted to it and it seems like it is not enough or not as loud as it used to be anymore, leaving the urge to upgrade once more. (all the while your friends with little experience in car audio are saying wtf is wrong with you!). through my experiences I have come to realize that anything over 140-145ish is plenty for DD, anything over will inevitably fu

stand abput 20 yards from a brick wall and run head first into it and see if that solves your problem
That would probably take my mind off the runny nose and hurting eyes I have now but doubt it will do much for my hearing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Reminds me of Major Payne when the guy has the hurt foot //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

well being sick and having the pressure in your ears (and a possible ear infection) probably isn't helping, wait till you kick this and then go back to listening and see how you do

I've had a similar problem lately too. My ears feel a little under pressure, and my left ear during high dbs with high frequency will sort of "distort" in a way, sorta like a speaker being overpowered. It kinda worries me. Have anyone here ever had their ear to "distort" so to speak?

PJ! woot ur back!

anyway, your ear drums are most likely not what is hurting //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
