How to strip RCA?

So until I can afford to replace the whole system in my car, I am just going to be putting in my sub and amp. The problem is that the stock Bose has no pre-outs, I have read that I can take the low level input to the Bose sub amp and splice a pair of RCA's into this that will give me a signal to my amp.

But, I have no idea what to do with the RCA's, all I have read is to strip some of the insulation from the RCA and splice it to the Bose wires. Are there only 2 wires inside of an RCA and is it obvious which is ground and which is the signal?

This is for a 2004 Nissan Maxima with the crappy Bose system.

Thanks.

You need a line-output-converter to do that, not stripping the wire itself...

David Navone sells a good one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I already have a LOC kicking around somewhere, did not think it would work on the inputs at the Bose amp though (read that these were low/line level inputs to the Bose amp).

I guess the LOC would work on the outputs of the Bose amp, but then would it not sound crappy going through one amp and then a LOC and then into another amp and back out again>?

When you hook up an LOC a headunit or stock headunit it is going through that amp in the headunit so how is it any different? Just make sure it doesn't put out too much power for the LOC because they do have a power input limit. That car just has an external amp from the headunit instead of internal.

line output converter off the low level radio output = no no, line output converter after the factory amp is a much better idea

I second this. In my Monte, I ran the LOC off the factory amp outputs going to the rear speakers, and it worked great.
