How to remove my cars a/c ?

I need to remove the a/c compressor/condenser, all that BS on my 81 pontiac. Its got an R-12 system on it so i know thats a little more dangerous than 134a. Basically what i wanna do is just go put the car somewhere away from my house and release the shit (illegal, yes i know) but whats the deal with R-12? Is it gonna float up and dip or what, i cant find any info on its weight or anything, to find out whether its lighter than air and evaporates up, or floats down to the ground and lingers and stuff. I wanna get rid of my a/c system to clean my engine bay a bit, but dont feel like paying 200 to have the refridgerant pumped out at a shop. Has anyone ever done this? im thinking about just running out there and cutting the hoses with my hedge clippers and hauling ***. Not that much psi in there anyway, id say under 5.

are you sure your ac system is only at 5 psi? because i normal one is around 40 psi. but i have been needing to do this to replace my ac system. i think im just gonna stick a screwdriver in it and wear goggles or somethin.

nah man thats helium that does that lol. R-12 is some badass shit from what ive read, will cause cardiac arrest and shit if you breath it in. which is why im kinda worried. Im about to go chop one of the hoses though and ****in dip back inside. gonna park it out by the neighbors house and leave the hood up so it can all evaporate, and i got some stuff to do to the motor tommorow. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Just take some channel locks to the fittings on the compressor. If it still has pressure it'll spray out the r-12 and the oil. As long as it's not in a garage when you crack it you'll be fine. It makes you dizzy if you breath a bit too much.

most shops will recover r12 for free, as its worth $$$ and is recycled. As far as it being dangerous? no. Like any compressed gas the danger lies with it shooting in your face and eyes. I would suggest having a shop do it. And if your ac dont work.. it probley allready leaked out in the first place. There should be a valve like on your tires, press that with a screw driver to see if it even still has a charge.
