How to measure watts / wattage on my amp

Yea, you'll have to go 4 ohms on a bridged channel w/that amp. I have a review somewhere on that amp, well actually its 5ch brother, and it did do about 25% more power then it's rated at.

This is not a power house amp, just a good and actually clean 4 corner amp.

I have a sony XM-404EQX it says 40wrms X 4 or 100wrms X 2 bridged....

I have a DMM now do i just check the amps being put out then convert it to watts? this is why i want to know

i have 4, 4 ohm 12" subs wired up for a 1 ohm load. The amp will easily power ALL of them and i have it brided on only the rear channels, not even using the fronts.
even if your amp could handle a 1ohm load you would only be giving your speakers, in a best case scenario, 50watts each. they would laugh at you.

And to determine the output of the amp you will need more than a DMM... you'll need a clamp.

That being said, you will need more than 40 watts per woofer... that is practically nothing for most 12" woofers.
