How to make a video, of whats on your computer screen?

I've seen this done in a few other videos, but what I am trying to do is make a video for instance of me surfing the internet, but not with a camera I am holding, one that actually looks as if it was your screen. It's hard to explain, maybe someone will get it.

i believe if you use a screen recorder it'll lag up your system. so it will be quite noticable.
