how to make a low pass filter

so according to this do i quite litterally add a coil in the pos speaker wire line and im good to go? im thinking i can get one of these coils out of an old computer power supply i have laying around.

im trying to remove the mids and highs out of my sub. my amp doesnt have low pass neither does my head unit and i dont want to replace either of them so im attempting to make an inline crossover myself.
