How to fix broken trunk? (Pics)

I installed my system on Wednesday and as the days went on I noticed that my music wasn't as loud as when I first installed it. So I get off work on Friday morning and my music is really quite. I thought it was something electrical. So I wake up to try and figure out what might be wrong. I tried to pop the trunk but it wouldn't open and it was very loose. I finally got the trunk open and the lock to the trunk is just dangling there. The vibrations from the subs ripped the lock from the metal that holds it in place. How do I fix this? I thought about getting the places where the metal ripped welded. Is this the best way to fix this? I know some of you guys have alot louder setups out of a trunk. Please chime in and give me some suggestions on the best way to fix my trunk.

IMO welding it back would be the best option and probably a good idea, however i had the same problem years back on a car. the main problem is trying to get the weld to taper to such thin metal on the trunk lid. i think the weld should be the first option., also while you are in there sound deaden it to avoid future problems.

You could even try and mount another heavier piece of metal over that area 26ga or 24ga. Use some JB weld and a few pop rivets to secure it in place. Then re drill the holes for the hardware and re attach.

however he will eventually be back to the same problem within a small amount of time. he needs to try and weld it and also re enforce it better, then sound deaden it.

I had this happen to my grand prix. Luckily I have a tig welder that is capable of welding thin material and not burning it. After I welded it back together with some reinforcement pieces, I back-filled the cavity with expanding foam which seemed to stop a lot of rattle too.

If you don't have access to a tig welder, I suggest having a trained welder piece it back together, deadening the shit out of it, then making some larger brackets for it so that it attaches to the trunk at more than just one bolt-point per side.

i also had this happen to a crown vic, how ironic, but eventually had to get rid of the car not long after.

In that car, i had my dad re-weld the locking mechanism back on the frame, but before that happened, my catalytic converter had got damaged 3 times in 10 days! I was refused warranty or replacement service from 2 companies and another company refused to install one on there PERIOD because they were saying my stereo system was too strong for the car i was driving...

Sadly, the single sub i was using has still yet to be sold because it's "too powerful", that's what everyone tells me. So, it's my legendary car killer = The Original AQ HD3 line.
