how to beat a W7

Meaning you use an amp that has more power than recommended for the speaker but just set the gains lower?
Or you set the gains where they should be based on your amplifier specs and H/U output voltage so you know you don't have distortion and then don't worry so much about the rating on the speaker. Within reason of course. Example: I am sending 150% of the rated power to my W6 and I have no issues what-so-ever, it is clean accurate and loud.

w7s are hard to beat, there are competitors some which will get louder but not sealed if thats what youre planning. I dont see why ppl hate the dub7 it has been around how many years and its still a technological benchmark, how come I'm reading about possible tinsel slap on BTL's?

I dont put the W7 and BTL in the same catagory. and its not hard to beat, sure it's a very nice performance sub but I would take a IDMax over it anyday, and there's alot of subs that can get louder, but the W7 wasnt ment to get as loud since it's suppose to maintain good SQ.Also the BTL just came out, like u said the W7 has been in development for a few years, the BTL is a amazing sub for somethign that has just came out, of course its going to have some problems here and there nothing is perfect.

Your just doing the same thing as people who run amps below the recommended raiting, its true it can be done and with success, but the thing is not all amps/subs are the same, people have good luck going pass the recommendations of amp/subs but than again people have bad experience with them too.

yeh the box isnt to big of a problem i dont think, i have tons of power tools and most important lots of time to spend to proberly build a good home for the sub i choose to buy. and im sure i could get lots of help with dimensions and design from everyone here.

its not that i want to beat the dub 7 or that i dont like it, i just want something else that will perform as good or better then the 7.

i believe the pice on JL is 25% the name, they have built a good reputation and thats what people pay for, whenever someone says they have JL in the car everyone expects something good.
