how much you getting back from tax's or paying?

hey flip i never filed my taxes while i was in school but i never really had a job either, so my parents just claimed me as a dependent
Just because you are not in jail does not mean you didn't break the law. If I was 16 and made a million dollars investing do you honestly think that I wouldn't have to file if my parents claimed me as a dependant?

If that were true I would adopt today to avoid paying taxes on investments.

if you dont file, then you dont get anything back, but your parents would get more back if they claimed you as a dependent
Not true. Depending on your financial situation. When I was under 18 I filed independant and gave my parents the difference. I made out a couple hundred bucks.

never really saw the point of getting a huge tax return by fileing 0 dependents all year, and Then BAM filing 4. And getting a huge check back. Basically what you are saying is...

"Sure Mr. Government Take my money all year, keep it, gain interest off of it, and then give me back the priciple, and keep my intrest"

Where as, if you are truthfull and file how ever many dependents you have all year, you get that money and then you can invest it (no matter how small) and let that money work for you all year long...

Oh well, maybe some people just like getting a big check //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

i wanted to file so i wouldn't have so much taken out of my check, but my parents said i might would have to pay at the end of the year. i definately do not want to pay at the end of the year.

well like mentionded before some ppl are poor savers and like they say you never miss what you dont have, and i know plenty of ppl that claim 0 and then claim whatever at the end to get that lump sum check, and i however dont see anything wrong with that because unlike some others dont have the will power to save money and so on, and also not many people know how to invest money and then you can also lose all of your money by investing but you could gain a whole lot more

how do you file to have less money taken out of your check give that you are 18, live at home, not married, and no kids? i always filed to have the most taken out of my check, but i'd rather not and just have that money NOW lol.

Not true. Depending on your financial situation. When I was under 18 I filed independant and gave my parents the difference. I made out a couple hundred bucks.
Mom wont let me file independant because she is stupid. I would pay her the difference but nope...her logic doesnt work that way.

I really like how she swears up and down she is going to transfer money out of my account to pay for w/e I buy through paypal (I use her credit card and she transfers the funds from my account to hers) and it never happens untill one day she cant figure out why her credit card balence is $300 over what her books said it should be then she remembers...it's a nusence for me when I am trying to budget my spending.

Scary thing is she handles the business's books. On time she paid me $200 too much in my pay check because she added one week of pay twice...

She also rants about the freezer not working right, so she buys another one. Just because our power bill is like $200 and the freezer wasnt staying as cold as she though it should. Un benounced to her that the setting had been turned all the way down...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

$200 power bill wouldnt have anything to do with the hot tub, 52" TV my dad keeps running all the time, their $42" Flat screen CRT in their room that is running all the time and the fact that she opens doors because it is comfertable outside but forgets to turn off the heater...then yells at me for leaving my computer monitor on in power save mode when the computer is off...

/clueless mom rant
