A local church wants me to do a website for them, But I have no idea what the going rate is for that kind of work . I don’t want to do a Bull shit website, but I also don’t want it “flashed” the **** out (cuz I hate working with flash). How much should I charge them ?

That depends entirely on how good you are, do you have any examples of your work? You're obviously not a professional (or you wouldn't be asking this on a car audio forum...) so I'd say a couple hundred.

Simple, clean, and easy to use, those are the best sites.

my parents used to make websites, and they got paid 25$ per main page, and 10$ per sub-page if thats wat u meant
Well, they got ripped off royally, unless they used Frontpage or something, in which case they should have been paying the people for putting up a ridiculously ugly or horridly coded site //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

Yea, well, personally. I've only done one professional site, but it got taken down last year because the guy went out of business (it was a local PC repair shop). I currently have http://tefrik.net, but I don't keep much on it, ATM. The server got hacked about 2 months ago and I just haven't felt like redoing my blog, I've been working on it recently though (I'm probably 60% done coding, 50% imagery //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif ).

Most of my work, however, has never even left my personal server here at home, it has no need to. I'll upload a few if you'd like, but none of them really have content or anything, I generally just keep the designs.

I can pretty much help you with any code though, I've been doing HTML/CSS for 4 years now, but my designing "skills" have only recently developed into anything worth looking at because I've been playing with Photoshop a lot lately.

Well let me put it this way.... When they came to me I told them I'll start at $150

and $20 for monthly update......

Well its almost finished and they love it.. I just dont want to short change myself. BTW check it out http://gtlmbc.org/index.html tell me what you thnk so far....

I'm going to be dead honest with you, it's poop. Not trying to diss you or anything, but the colors are horrid, the text on the sides are practically illegible, the text on the left moves (I know it seems nifty, and hey, they probably actually like that, but my inner web dev is dying from it >_

I know you probably don't care about Web Design, proper coding, proper visual imagery, proper usage of colors, etc etc, but I've spent a lot of time studying stuff like that. If that's a first page (or nearly first for you), you did fairly good. And hey, if they're happy with it, don't fret, just take the money and leave it. But if you plan to pursue Web Design as a career (or just some quick side $$$), then I suggest you learn to code proper semantic HTML 4.01 or XHTML, CSS, and read some stuff about accessible and practical web design, otherwise, you'll never break a couple hundred for a site.

I suggest http://htmldog.com, start practicing, it's quite fun and it feels great to tell people that you hand coded that web site (I'm assuming you used some sort of WYSIWYG editor) and then look at http://good-tutorials.com for some Photoshop guides, and if you can't get PS (or don't want to pirate it...), get the GIMP, it's a great powerful free image creation program.

EDIT:

It was http://walkerpcrepair.com

The colors were not my IDEIA... Those are the church colors.......

but your right. Didnt really have much to work with but if they like it, why complain about it...

3 easy payments of 29.95 followed by one ****ing complicated payment of 13.95 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
