How much voltage?

Trying to check my RCA's now. Using a digital multimeter.

Running into problems though.

I got the multimeter set at the 20 DC volts range. I stick the black lead into the white RCA, red into red. No reading.

I thought that meant bad RCA's so I checked the ones coming outta the HU. No reading. So I am assuming I am doing this wrong.

Any help?

(What's happening)

HU is on and playing a song. Music is coming from the speakers. RCA's are hooked into the Sub Pre-outs. RCA's not putting out voltage.

(History)

These are the same RCA/HU as in my old system. That was a BXI-608 with 2 P2d410's. New system is a BXI-1208 with an RD 15" Sonance.

Amp is getting 12.4v and is running normally. Sub doesn't even twitch with music. It's a d2 wired at 1-ohm.

I would guess a solid test tone. But would you just use a multimeter set it to a/c voltage and touch the positive to the prong and the negative to the "clip" (the round part that helps hold it snug) also is the reading already RMS or do I have to calculate that? also if this is correct can you also test the voltage directly out of the crossover/line driver by the same method just sticking it in the prong and touching the round part

But yes you take a multi meter set to a/c and touch the pin and the shield and it gives you output.

quoted from termpro...just so you didnt think i was joshing you
