How much power does the IDMax like?

I've heard that these subs really get iffy with more than 1000w for daily driving. And I assume you're talking about a 12".

i know they're rated around 1000 watts rms, but could they handle 1200 in a ported box?
Since when does a ported box allow for more powerhandling?

They're pretty sensitive drivers, and will get loud off of 5-600 watts ported

I wouldn't feel comfortable feeding them more than 1kw daily

i wouldn't put more than 700rms to a max in any ported box. great subs, but they dont like the power. keep that hifonics, should be great for a max.

What's the real deal on all this "how much power can this or that handle/like"?

If it's rated at 200-1000 watts why will you want to run 1200 watts?.....to test what? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nono.gif.eca61d170185779e0921b0faa9704973.gif

And you will not "notice" any significant difference with the extra 200 watts, it's so minimal that it's not even worth it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Follow what's recommended by the manufacturer and you should be good.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yes I know a lot of people around will say "....oh I feed mine with 2000 watts daily", ".......or you should be good with that much power"...what's that fo?.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

If the sub fails with 1200 watts (I don't think it will) you can't tell it's bad quality, because you run more power than recommended, that additional risk is up to you.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Dont give it more then 900 watts in a ported box. The IDMax is a very efficiant driver, but it doesnt like taking more then its power handling. If your just trying to get really loud the IDMax isnt for you.

x2

just because you hook it up to a 1200w amplifier, doesnt mean youre setting it to run 1200w, and if you set it up so, doesnt mean you even run it at 1200w
