Can my E8's handle 400 watts each on a daily basis? The recommended rms is 200 watts in 0.6 cubes. Should I make the box a little smaller to handle the power better?
I was going to run the pair in 1.5 cubes with 250 watts apiece, but I'm wondering if I should decrease the size of the box since now I'm gonna run 400 watts apiece. Just so you know box will most likely be tuned to 34hz.
They're rated at 250 watts because that's what they can handle. 400 watts is too much for a single E8 on a regular basis while playing music. Sure you can have a 400 watt amp on a single E8 and have it last forever...as long as you don't use all 400 watts.
For short burps/runs they can possibly handle 400 watts each at a specific (high) frequency, but not long-term over a broad spectrum.
They are mechanically limited - thermally they will handle significantly more than 200 watts.
If you must use more than rated use no more than the suggest box size, preferably smaller. You will break them physically well before doing any damage to the coil.
yeah i put two in a 1 cuft box tuned to 30hz and burnt up one of the tinsel leads on one of the subs....and that was using a cadence sqa-1 which is rated at 700wrms@2ohm. but was pushing maybe 450-500 to both. lots of mechanical noise if i gave it anymore juice..
They can handle power. I dont see where people see differently. Orion 2500d @ 2ohm daily to a pair and they held up just until they played under tuning a little.
