hi guys,

lets say i have speakers that take 100rms is there a rule of thumb for how many more rms for the amp ?

i hope you understand what im asking..

what im asking is can i say use a 300rms amp for 100rms speakers ? i just turn down the gain.

would there be a point were the amp is to big for the 100rms speaker ?

ya i know that..

im talking " say 200rms to 400rms " amp.

im asking because i want to upgrade my speakers down the road and don't feel like buying another amp. so if i can get a 200 to 300rms amp ill be happy.

but im wandering if there's a rule of thumb on picking an amp, if you know what the speakers can handle. i know head room is good but how much head room ?

I have a 2k+ watt amp on my 600watt sub and 110w per channel on 30-50watt speakers with no issues. as long as you set the gains accordingly and don't get stupid with the volume knob, its no big deal.

I would buy something that will work for you down the road and just be careful with it now.
