How much is Too Much for Rainbow SLC 265s?

Hey! I've got a pair of the older Rainbow SLC 265 non kick-bass in my doors right now. I'm running them off an old school Alpine giving them 70wrms each right now.

My question is, how much is too much for this comp set? What have you guys ran them on and for how long?

I'm thinking about getting an RF Punch 500s to power them, but it will give them 125wrms. I'm thinking that's too much right? Maybe I should cap the power I give them to 100 watts?

Comments? Suggestions? Any help is good. Thanks in advance!

It depends on you really. I have seen people run as much as 150 per side w/o out issue. If you are adding the power for increased loudness, then you might want to think about a different set. If you are adding the power to increase your headroom, then go for it.

I ran mine with about 100 rms for a year and recently got a A600.2 and ran it at 150 rms and fried the voice coils. I think 125 would be perfect as long as its in a well sealed door.

do you think if I do 125 and just keep the gains low or at nominal, everything will be fine?

Don't really have the budget right now for new Comps...

I thought those they had a RMS rating of 150 watts at 4ohm?

Anyway, I've seen lots of people say that they give them 200+ watts. Always with the caveat to be careful with the gain setting.

I think you really don't have anything to worry about with 125/side.
