F3 is the -3db cutoff point and Fb is going to be the resonant frequency of the enclosure (typically referred to as what the box is tuned to).
Enclosures can affect power handling but not on that large of a scale. Unless it is built wrong with far to much port area and/or net volume. To suggest you build "magic enclosures" that increase power handling over rated is simply not true.Depends. If I'm building an enclosure for the Type-R I run a MRX-M100 up to roughly 8-900W. If it's a basic enclosure and not really to the specifications of the woofer, run 5-600. Type-R's prefer a ported enclosure, they produce a decent amount of bass and is still rather clean.
Most prefabs are tuned into the 40hz range. However, the tuning of the enclosure is relative to the application and goal. This means you do not have to be tuned low to get low or vise verse. Tuning of an enclosure is one of the largest misconceptions out there.VERY unlikely. Most prebuilt ported boxes are tuned higher than the Type-R would like (typically in the 50-60hz range depending)
Odds are they are claiming prefab to be "custom". It is not likely at all that those enclosure are custom built waiting on buyers. If they build custom enclosures they would be building enclosures around the application, product, and goals for each client...not random enclosures that "should work".Actually, I called the place that installed my sub and stuff and they said that they custom build their boxes to Alpine's specs. I thought it was a premade one because they had a few of them there, but they just know they will be selling type-r's enough, so they keep a few on hand.
Never said that.....so please don't reference that I did. An enclosure doesn't have a large effect on the power handling, I am referencing enclosures that arn't even close to the specifications of the woofer. Woofers range in what their requirements are for sealed or ported enclosures, what's good for one, might not necessarily be good for another. That's not saying it won't play and have a decent amount of output, but not the most out of the subwoofer. I am just saying that the enclosures I build for the woofers I sell are specifically for the woofers parameters, the specific vehicle, and the desired response so I know the woofer will be "happy" in that enclosure.Enclosures can affect power handling but not on that large of a scale.
