How much better will it sound?

Hey everyone I added JBL GTO607c's up front and JBL GTO607's in the back amped with an alpine 4 chan. I like the speakers a lot they are very clear and I can crank them up. The thing they are lacking bass, they have barely any at all. My question is, if I add a 12" type r or a JL 12w3 to the trunk how much better will my setup sound? How did your systems sound before you added a sub? Thanks!

Edit: is it normal to have such minimal bass with just 4 6.5" speakers?

You can try lowering your HPF on the amp, but I wouldn't expect much bass out of those speakers. They will play great for mids/highs though, and a sub will make a HUGE diff in bass and over-all loudness.

I take it you're buying local since you mentioned alpine/jl? LOTS of good internet companies with great products for less $$$.

A lot better. I think people usually add a sub first and then move on to speakers and stuff. I have a JL audio 10w3 and it doesn't slam, but it adds enough bass that you can definitely feel the beats and it adds a lot of low end. Also, I got the speaker, box, and wiring kit for like $115.

bump, I heard my friends setup with 4 6.5" type R's and type r 5x7's in the back and they had awesome bass. I just dont see my system sounding good right now, it sounds old school just mids and highs with no low end bass at all. Even If I add a sub will it make the sound full?

You have to consider that even though you're using "upgraded" speakers, you're still using entry level co-axials in undeadened door locations, without much power (my assumption). You can't really expect much out of them.

they are amped with an alpine 4 channel amp, they do get very loud just have very little midbass, once I get a sub do I just set the speakers bass setting to 0 and let the sub do all the low end work?

6.5" mids are not made to play sub/low fq

unless you have some huge mids you wont get much lower end bass

you will get alot of midbass

i think alot of people assume that upgraded mids will magically add massive low end.

You need large mids, alot of power to the mid and proper deadening.

and please dont tell me pg rsd have midbass cuz they dont. I have heard them and was not impressed

get a sub and you will notice a big differance
