How much better is Alpine then Pioneer? SQ Wise

i replaced my old alpine cda-7837 for a 480mp and i can tell you alpine had MUCH better SQ, even being a lousy cd player from 1997 against a complete mp3/wma player from this year...

You do realize the 480 is toward the bottom of the Pioneer '06 line right?? I would hope your nice player from 97 would sound better than a deck that has an M.S.R.P. of $160.

I personally would say that neither Alpine or Pioneer are better than the other in SQ. I will however say that they sport a DIFFERENT sound. Whichever one sounds better to the individual will be the deck of choice. Not to mention the rest of the system will have alot to do with how good it sounds as well. Over all I've always found the Pioneer sound to be a little warmer than the Alpines. But thats just me.

I have the alpine 9853. I think it has great SQ when only having stock speakers in my old car. I havent found any other cd player good enought to replace it.

I went from the alpine 7998 to a 9835. I love them both and wish I still had the 7998. Only problem was the face on the 7998 kept breaking and not working. I had it repaired 3 times before I finally gave up and got the 9835. The 7998 had a little better SQ than the 9835 on the same system I had. Its not a very noticable difference.

I guess Im not too much input in this thread other than I love my Alpines. I have never own any other brand deck than an Alpine.

Forgot I posted this, Im getting the 9853. From what I gather it was one of the top of the line 05' decks and im getting it for $200 cdn which is around $175-180 USD? sweet deal imo. The pioneer is a bit to bright and flashy anyways. This one has time correction and crossovers btw so im happy, ill let you know how it sounds on my stock system which is actually pretty decent. thanks for input

i've just changed my HU from alpine 9853 to the pioneer 880... and somehow, it can tame the harshness of my current lanzar OPTI tweeters... and yeah... IMO, the pioneer does seems to make the sound more warmer or laid back than the alpine...

I like my Pioneer deck better then any alpine. I'd pick the 880 pioneer over any of the Alpines in the same price range too.

Im looking at the Pioneer DEH-P6800MP. Looks like a good combo of looks/function and sound quality
then I look at the alpines. according to the installers have better SQ then pioneer due to better internals.. but the problem is they are so FUGLY. I mean the $300 deck they have right now has like one line of huge text, it looks like its from the 80's. I understand they are function over form but it looked too ghetto. My friend has a 9847 which looks awesome so im gonna try to get one on ebay but if not should I just get a pioneer?

Actually they sell Alpines AND Pioneers and the Pioneer I was looking at was MORE expensive then Alpine I wanted but he told me to get the Alpine if I wanted SQ. This isnt at best buy or something, they are a car audio shop who have won awards all over North America and their store is full of trophies. This doesnt make them infallible but I certainly don't think they are pulling info out of their *****. Im buying the 9853 today because I get every feature I want for the //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif but I was pretty close to getting the Pioneer. anyways wish me luck on the install

I don't want to hijack the thread but how is the quality of the double din version of either the Pioneer or Alpine? I am using a Kenwood double din dvd and I honestly don't care for the sq at all. Would like a step up but don't want to loose the video (backup cam).
