How many of you...

How many of you actually work in the car audio business, or fabrication, or really anything with cars? I'm taking a lot of classes in school about cars and all that, i actually am going to be a certified car technician and get my science credit through my auto class. Just wondering to see if it will lead me to any good....

o for sure, but i mean some people have to own those stores. A place called mickey shorr here in michigan is pretty big, like 17 local stores, and my buddies grandpa was friends with the guy and actually installed a system for him, pretty cool for us localers.

yeah, i know one of those, it's on Woodward, it's a rundown store though, and they're all jackasses. but to each they're own i guess:)

i'm in a suburb of detroit, much better than detroit though. my main car audio place is actually car tunes on Woodward, and there's a mickey shorr down more by 8 mile i think, it's kinda creepy.

i was just at that mickey shorr, bought some speaker terminals, half off. its alright, those guys really dont know much, there really really stupid, as in they lack common sense. i like car tunes, they have a really nice store. you do any competitions?

no, i haven't seen any around. i talked to aaron at car tunes and he says they do like 2 a year at the car tunes in roseville. and i won't do a comp until i get my k-series, cuz i would be blown out of the water with my crunch's right now.

that would be sweet, but i don't have much of an imaginatioin for designing things, so i'm gonna get a computer science degree(i think?) and write programs, designing RTA's just sounds so much easier

I wish I knew how to design programs. As of now my computer experience is gaming, downloading, and AutoCAD-ing.

Would i have a better chance working for an audio compnay by being a mechanical engineer instead of an acoustical engineer? How much does the average mechanical engineer make per year?

No idea on the average income thing. Mechanical engineers have very VERY broad ranges in terms of careers, though. My dream would be to design materials to work in movable parts, such as subwoofer surrounds, cones, etc., but in a field like mechanical engineering, I could very well design medical parts or surfboard materials even. There's a lot of stuff you can do.

I think if you were an acoustical engineer you could do very well, too. You could help design concert halls and whatnot, as well. That'd be awesome, I think. You could probably help design boxes for various subwoofers.

my programing skills so far are very limited, seeing as how i'm merely 16. i can write text programs in qbasic(arguably the easist language to learn, and basically powerless). i tried to learn C++, but that's incredibly hard for me. that's like trying to hit 170db and sound clean at the same time.

lol are you guys ALWAYS thinking audio? what about "thats like trying to find a hot girl, that doesn't b.itch at you." //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Why was it so hard? I'm thinking about taking it next year.

ponder this: the single hottest girl I've ever seen (my age) rarely even talks to me. (She has a boyfriend, of course, but I have a girlfriend so all I can do is stare at her and be the friendly type) But she never acts *****y, nor does she act stupid. Only quiet. Then again, I obviously don't know her that well because she rarely talks though.

QBasic is very simple. you want the program to write something on the screen, the command is PRINT "write something cool in here". that's it. with C++, it takes more lines of code, and there is other things u need to do before u actually print something to the screen. also, there are libraries of code that u can use(not like a building, but a big database of code), there are so many more things u can do in C++, and it's just a crapload more code u have to memorize/learn to use. my cousin codes in C++, he's been doing it for about 4 years, he doesn't even know all the commands for it. but then again, i'm not taking a class for it, i'm trying to learn it from books, so it's harder for me.
