Well last night since i ran my car without oil it died and im not going to fix it because that would be an expensive fix. I am now looking to purchase the cheapest mode of transportation because i make very little money. I was looking into some used motorcycles on ebay with about 20k miles on them for under $2k.

I have no motorcycle experience except for a 125cc dirtbike, but how long do street bikes normally last? I know on some cars you can get 2k-3k miles on them but i am not sure about bikes. Does anyone know?

If you can't take care of a car, what makes you think that a bike's maintenance will be much different? If properly maintained, you should be able to get 30K out of a bike.

he is right as long as u maintain it you will be ok winterize it if you have to and check ur fluids. i know some people with street bike that have 50,000 miles on it and still run great off course there probably on their 10th set of tires but prevention is the key

i know, i know i didnt take car of my car and i feel really bad because i didnt even pay for it, but now i will check fluids more often. i am going to pay for the bike because its cheap and gets good gas mileage. i will not **** up any more of my automobiles. careless operator error. but 30-50k miles is about where problems come into play?

Honesly I would be careful of buying a bike with over 20k miles. Yes they can last a long time if cared for, but who knows how well the previous owner cared for the bike. Especiialy if it's a sportbike. Chances are it was beat on it's whole life. Just some things to keep in mind...

a bike should last as long as it takes you to wreck, assuming you take care of it.

bikes require more maitnence upkeep than a car. and for a daily driver, better hope you have a good bit of riding experience, alot of patience to put up with the all the cages on the road, and you dont mind being uncomfortable for long periods at a time.

well i will only take it around town and aiken is small. roads are fairly decent and i have riden a bike from time to time, but i can drive a dirtbike off road just figuring a motorcycle would be not as difficult since its flat and smooth.

what do you mean by cages on the road?

Offroad riders tend to be good on the street. How do I know? Not only have I heard, but I went from 10+ years of motocross to the street. But be careful on the road, trust me I've learned that here recently. Cars and people talking on cell phones, they dont watch for bikes. So you have to be on double alert. Also small rocks if your not careful, or an oil spot will throw you around. But If your looking at a decent bike with around 15k for 2,000. your doing pretty good. I've had a R1, that I took on long summer trips I sold a year ago with 65,xxx miles. She still ran great. But you better take allot better care of it then you do your car. And you mentioned a bike being cheaper trust me it's not. I got a new r1 now, I get about 32 mpg, but it cost me about .25 cents a mile after you add it up for tires.
