how is snoopdann and t e a m d a i l y doing

eh what the hell, i'll show ya how I put it together. Im not one to guard my box designs, id rather let people benefit from my help. The following pictures are in order of assembly...sorta. I got the idea for the port at looking at F-4 Phantom and F-16 engine air intakes plus what I know about horns / slot boxes.....and sorta mixed it alltogether for this.

Below you can see the basics of the build, laying the marble in the 3/4 shell of the enclosure. I used Poly Liquid nails to bond the marble to MDF which worked out pretty well.

The form of the port was made by using dowel rods and glueing them in place with a hot glue gun.

As you can see ive layed fiberglass over the front of the dowel rods and tacked it in place with a glue gun.

This is a inside view of the back side of the rolled dowel rod port. Below on the bottom you can see where i taped off the marble so it wouldnt get any resin on it when i painted it on the fiberglass

PICT0104.jpg

Same side shot of the fiberglass roll on the outside, as you can see ive started painting on the resin and it soaking in the fabric...it looks like crap now but it will get better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

more pics comming

Wouldn't the change in port area make it act like a horn? Or is that only if it gets wider toward the end?

Hell, I work where they test those engines in wind tunnels.

I need to ask an engineer.

re-resined layer in between the dual 3/4" MDF baffles to make a secured seal on the front of the enclosure.

Here i poured in more resin on the back side of the port roll form and set it at an angle to solidify, and as you can see i added the top plate baffle

PICT0112.jpg

After some sanding, re-resining, and sanding again I got the form smooth and painted over it.....and finished it with some Krylon //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Then pulled off the tape to reveal the georgous marble below.

this is the 45 deg bevel on the inside of the box behind the sub

Here you can see ive added the port side baffle and buttoned up the end of the enclosure, and getting ready to drop in my 4hp

and here it is in the first test session of the box in the jeep....a little rough looking even still, but pretty boxes arent loud //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

And as you can see above, at the Db drag finals it still wasnt in a pretty form, having no carpeting or paint. I might duraline it still, Im unsure. Maybe just a nice paint job on it will do. Anyways I hope this spawns some ideas for you folks out there to get out and work on your ride's setup.

pretty much...open source FTW. We all contribute, we all gain.

hah open source, yeah i didnt think about it like that but you're right. I figure its not like all of you are gonna run down to home depot and spend $200 on marble and resin just to copy my box either.

One thing that struct me about the box when i was lookn at the pics i posted, was that you can tell i was kinda hurried....the box was drying 2 days before finals so I didnt have enough time to do those "special" touches like filling in all the screw holes with wood filler (allthough I did do that to about 90% of the screws hence you cant see them in the pics much) But I really hate it now that I had to do that since I was in such a rush.

You know I work for lowe's right...$200 on marble ha!

I probably won't copy, but it is indeed inspirational. I wouldn't use marble, as it's too heavy...but that may be the reason why it is successful. I have been considering building a box out of advantec subflooring as it looks like it would better absorb resin.

just..WaW

that box is insane!!

Marble??

****, thats freakin smart thinkin about it.

thx alot for sharing man!!

but i dont understand why the port curves like that?

*(cuz air flow is alot better?)*

I would think to create a better 'spring' for the sub...Although I may be way off base, but I would think that type of port design creates more pressure inside the box because it is being guided through a smaller nozzel; which increase port velocity. How that relates to SPL, I don't know...This whole paragraph can be crap, but that is what I was thinking what happens.

I had a random thought, that with more/smoother port area in the bend it creates a lower pressure area that assists with air flowing through the bend with less turbulence
