How important is wire size?

I am running all new wire to my speakers. They are infinity Kappa 5x7's in the front and 6x8's in the rear. as of right now I just ordered this head unit (Pioneer Premier DEH-P670MP )

and I plan on powering my speakers with this Kicker amp.

what do I need to know about the wire I buy and what size should I get and what do you think would be a price range that I am looking at.

14awg should be fine.

Go with 16 guage. And get some wire that has good insulation that can take a beaten. If you go thicker than 16 guage, IMO, you won't notice any sound difference.

Thanks. I guess I will be looking for 16 guage. and just on another note, do you think that my system will sound good so far for a start. I have a sub on its way too...

You should be happy. Especially if this will be your first aftermarket system. You will be using an external amp to power your speakers, a new HU, and a sub...That will sound great.

It will sound like four coaxes powered off an amp.

Lots of mids and highs, not much bass.

Are you suggesting that he will lose bass by using 16 guage rather than 14 guage?

He was just telling him how his new speakers will sound.... Nothing about the wiring.

Sounds good...don't break the bank over it. Just ensure that you get a solid install done. Are you attempting it yourself?

I just upgraded to 14 awg, but thats because im running 300+ watts to each speaker, 16 awg is perfect for most people

no. I am way too dumb for that. I have friends that want to or I might pay to get it done somewheres. It would be nice to learn some day tho.
