So how high do you have your gain set?

About 6-8 months ago i fried my amp when i touched hte power cable to the amp. I originally had the gain at about 1/3. I replaced the amp with the same model and the gain ended up being about 2/3 up (.75 volt mark on the amp). I then bought a amp for the speakers and the gain ended up being set to about 2/3rds up which is just past the .5v mark on the amp. I set the gains with a multimeter. Anyways i figured it was my headunit so i tried anohter head unit that was the same model (deh-p590ib) and got the same rca voltage (2.3 volts). The voltage was the same on both decks at the deck and at the end of the RCA's. I guess the voltage is just overrated from pioneer. I am not running bass boost either and used a test tone when setting the gain. I have ran out of ideas on why the gain is set under the 1v mark on the amps... my rca voltage is 2.3v. Any ideas why my gain is ending up set so high? I am not using a rca splitter, so thats not it. What is your gain set at and what is the preout voltage?

well i st my gains with a 40hz at first and my dmm read 29.2 volts thats what i was wating it to be set at i recall around 850rms

and when i put in a music cd the sub wasnt loud and barely even moved

i then used a 70hz tone and the same volts and the sub was way different
