How hard to modify alt brackets?

Wondering about possibly changing my alternator out to a Ford style. I see some alts for sale in the Classifieds here and I'm just wondering how hard it is to get brackets, belts and pulleys to fit properly. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I've got a 1992 Nissan 240sx with a 2.0L engine. I'm looking to get above 200A if reasonably possible. I've emailed a couple of alt-builders to see what they can do for me, but thought I'd post here, too.

Thanks for any suggestions!

dont know never done it. but it should be easy. the problem would be integrating it into your electrical system. some use connectors to sense voltage and they will be different for ford/chevy/dodge etc etc than they would be for the nissan.

I'm not talking about MAKING brackets... but I know sometimes you can get add-ons that will make a bigger alt fit. I'm not a machinist, I'm a doctor.

I'm just afraid 160-200A is gonna be the best alt I can get in my 240, which just isn't gonna cut it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

if you are even asking, dont even try. Making brackets and wiring is cake for me, but if you have to ask then its way beyond you. Sorry to be an *******
i wouldnt say that. im willing to bet most people like asking before they take on a task.

how many people asked about how to built ported boxes, and now they can build it with one hand ties behind their back? theres a level of curiosity in everyone and being curious and asking doesnt mean you dont have the ability to do it. just my .02

Hoping to run about 3-3.5kW total eventually.
I'm running an EA 200a alt on my Altima, with an SVR up front, Deka in the rear. 2 SD's strapped plus comp amp & rear fill amp. VERY little dimming at full tilt and I'm probably close to 4k at that level, so you should be fine.

If you still want to go to a large case Ford or Delco alt then something like this might help, but you'll probably end up doing some fabrication, so a friend with a welder would be a big plus.

Thanks mlstrass, that just might work, one of 'em specifically says it will convert Nissan to Ford. Then all I have to worry about is the wiring. IF it's that easy. We'll see. I need to good a good look at my alt brackets and then see if I can find out how that adapter will work.

Good info!

200A should be fine. Get a kinetik in the front and 2400 in the back and your set.
Although my current AB xd1800 is a Class A/B. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif I'm definitely going to have to look into upgrading.... LATER. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
