you sturrin at me brah?
i've got a kenwood kac-742 amp, 35x4 @ 4 ohm stereo. i've had the thing forever, its been used and abused and never given me any trouble. what im wondering is just how good of an amp is it, compared to most 4 channel amps today, just trying to figure out whether to sell it or hang on to it since i use an orion 8004 (for now) to run my components.

Sell it if you can unless if you are a collector. There is no reason to hold on to a 13 years old amp. I dont know how good that amp was back then but Im sure the amps out today is a lot better/cleaner and more reliable then that.

Are you high? These fuc*king kids kill me......Some of the best amps around are still the old ones.....Just because technology has gotten better, doesn't mean car audio has followed.....It has in head units and really high end amps, but some of the best amps are still the old ones. Like older PG MS and MPS series....or even the older kenwood which if i remember right is all black with white lettering, nice amps in their day.....How about linear power, or soundstream class A? God, before making such an ignorant blanket statement, have some knowledge behind it. This guy wanted an opinion on the amp, all you did was tell him you didn't know sh!t....Hell, you were still watching cartoons when that amp was made!!!!!!!!.Sorry mods, i'll get off my soapbox now. But this is why these sites are goin to hell...........

kenwood amps are solid. they are quality. i had two kac-929's that i beat like a redheaded stepchild. they never went into protect once or ever even got hot actually. they were great pushing the 2 12" polk dx's i had

Those old Kenwood were not the cream of the crop back in the day but they were quality amps that put out rated power. I think the fact that it has been used and abused and is still kicking after all these years says enough. And foreman is right, some of the old american made amps are still the choice for those who crave the high end of car audio.

kenwood over rated their amps by alot until recently lol the old 900 series was 500 watts not the 900 - 1000 watts it was advertised it got wooped on power output but did well in features and sq (it should its an amp lol)

My Carver was made in '87 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

/me sells all of his stuff.

No im not a stupid kid and I will admit that I've only been in this for about 5 years seriously, I just dont see the point of keeping an old amp if you are not going to use it. Even though I am considered unexperiance but I DO know some of the best amps are the older amp but it dont mean that the newier amp that he has ALREADY isnt going to do the job.

I maybe considered new to car audio (about 5 years) but Im not new to electronics and technology. As things get old, used and abused things tend to break sooner or later. Like I stated before unless you are a collector sell it.

any pics of that? my father has a carver home theater amp, to 2 sets of older bose 901's, it sounds nice. i think the amp was made in 96-97.

what i was thinking of doing was bridging the orion to my mids, so that i can give them 120-140 rms, and running the tweets off the kenwood, and having it as a backup if i get another car. but then i'd have to find somewhere to put a third amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

i guess what i really was asking was whether the old school kenwood was REALLY good, like punch amps used to be. like where i could sell the thing on ebay for 2-300 bucks. doubt that'll happen though, especially with the shape its in, and it just has a certain sentimental value having been in so many cars and setups over the years. old ironsides, that amp.

i wasnt thinking of replacing the orion 200x4 with a 35x4 lol.
