Well I went to a local car audio shop and started to learn about this stuff. I'm trying to figure out a nice system to put in my STI, although Im not an audiophile I would like something that sounds decent.

I definetly want a CDA-9856 w/ the FullSpeed ipod stuff which comes out in february, but the rest of the stuff I wasnt sure about.

All Alpine

HU: CDA-9856

Speakers, 2 sets for front and rear doors: Type-S's

Subs: dual 12" Type-Ss

Amp to power subs: MRV-605

This was simply a recommendation of the shop when I told them I didnt know much about this stuff yet and wanted an entry level system without spending TOO much.

I was able to listen to dual 10s and then dual 12s through an Alpine HU, and I think I'd like to go with the 12s.

What are you guy's thoughts about all my components (except the HU)?

That sounds like a great budget system if you want to stay all in one brand. If you had the money, the only things I would sugguest would be doing the component set in the front instead of coax's and adding an amp for your fronts.

what about amp to power your speakers? i hope the shop wasn't on planning to use HU power to power those up. definately look into an amp to power those speakers up.

also if you read around enough many people here don't use rear speakers (if you want to know why do a search) so then either get a cheap set of coaxials if you want a rear fill. if rear fill isn't necessary then don't have it at all. i have empty speakers holes in the rears. put that money into an amp to power those speakers up.

to me i mean it looks fine. how much were you quoted?

edit: diamond beat me to it. lol.

Thanks for the quick responses,

"component set in the front instead of coax's" What does this mean? I have heard the term coaxial and am pretty sure thats what the Type-S speakers Im looking at are, but what advantages does a component set in the front have? Are coaxial speakers speakers that get their juice from the HU, and components are ones that are hooked up to an amp?

I was quoted $1500 with a sub box including labor/parts, which is a lot of money, but I guess in the car audio world it isnt :/ I was looking for maybe a slightly cheaper set up but didnt want to cut corners.

The shop mentioned I could do a set up with a 5-channel Amp to power the speakers, but I dont have the money for that, and they said the 9856 would be OK to power the speakers. Is it not OK?

Id never heard about people not getting rear speakers, but I will look into that.

Wow.

$1500 for that?

Ha.

I'd suggest you bring some Astroglide with you the next time you go to that shop. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

This is what I would do for $1500 and under:

Alpine 9856 ... $300?

MB Quart QAA4250 (250x4... pretty much the most bad-*** 4-channel you can buy) ... $450 shipped.

component (NOT coaxial) speakers up front ... probably $200 shipped for a great set

pair of IDQ 10"s or Arc Arc-series... $250

Marv-built box ... $150 shipped

Wiring ... $50

RAAMmat ... $100 a roll for your front doors, trunk, and rear deck...

Send me a msg on AIM if you want more suggestions, help, advice, etc.

If you're not open to installing yourself, you should probably seek professional assistance... just not from the aforementioned shop.

Actually I would like to spend under $1200 if possible, but here was the breakdown:

HU - $230 + $30 highspeed cable

Type S speaker set x 2 - $200 (100 a set)

MRV-605 Amp - $400

Type S 12" sub x 2 = $300 (150 a peice)

+ Wiring $80

Dash kit $15

Sub Box $100

+labor $140

Don't feel like mapping out pricing out entire setups over the forum... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

actually thats okay but you can do much better with $1500 though. i suggest you browse the forums and start learning. if you are short on time then i guess you can have the local shop do all that for you.

Are you open to purchasing through the internet? Good way to save a lot of money. Search around, you could get that exact setup for a lot less, or a better setup for your budget.
